Obama Barcelona

It’s hard to believe that only two months have passed since that important night. Will he?won’t he?” we all asked, and finally, on 4^th November 2008 he did. The big hype of 2008 was without a doubt, Obama. These elections signalled an end to poor politics in recent years, the possible presidency of a black man and because of the change they could bring about in the US.

Perhaps most importantly for the millions of Americans who voted for Obama in the elections are the key virtues that Obama represents; hope, optimism and security for the future, feelings that McCain just couldn’t stir up in the general public.

Obama doesn’t appear to have a hidden agenda, he is full of optimism and has positive views, all this has inspired artists to support his presidency. Support from a variety of celebrities has come through in the media, photos and paintings.

The Cuban artist, Jorge Rodriguez Gerada, in support of Obama, created a grandiose piece of art. In fact, it was so grandiose that it covered the forum beach in Barcelona close to many apartments in barcelona, and was a enormous depiction of the new President’s head (139×82), created by a small army of volunteers and contributors, made from plaster and sand in different colours and depicting the contours of the best known face of 2008.

Obama’s supporters have great hopes and wishes for America and this is why the Cuban artist named his piece “Expecations”. The need for change in the US after years of “Bushisms” was awoken by Obama regardless of his triumph or defeat in the elections and thus the artist created the artwork in the hope of the former. The scale to which the world has followed the elections and Obama’s presence in the public eye is mirrored in the size of the art. We are in no doubt that more artwork dedicated to Obama will appear, especially considering that he is able to inspire people this much before his presidency, we can only wait to see what changes he can bring as President.

Having these things is important, because it shows to girls that a man has a high social status. Having materialist objects is not a requirement to show that you have a high social status.
