How To Get The Most From Your Gift Shopping
While many people enjoy shopping, they may not necessarily enjoy it when they have to specifically go Christmas gift shopping. If that sounds like you, then you may want to consider starting a gift “closet, drawer, box, etc.” That probably sounds a bit strange, yet it can work. The basic idea is to set aside an area or a box you easily store somewhere and continuously fill it with gifts for those you shop for regularly.
The idea is to keep your eye out year-round for deals on items that you think the people on your list would enjoy. Clearance racks, close-outs, sales, etc. can actually yield some amazing finds at bargain prices. In this way you can come up with some great gifts for everyone on your list and save a great deal of money too.
This does not have to be strictly for any specific holiday gift shopping, but you should keep your eyes open for any items that may be given as gifts for any unexpected occasion or event. You can pick up gift baskets for housewarming parties, as well as blankets or clothes for a baby gift basket. Candles and stationery are also good items to have on hand too. Be sure that when you bring the items home that you put them directly into the gift closet or whatever area you have designated so that you will know right where they are when you need them.
There are a few ways that you can help minimize stress during holiday shopping as well. Some of the easiest last minute gifts are usually anything that can be done up in baskets, such as gourmet food gift baskets or Christmas gift baskets of any type. You can add decorations to the baskets to make them more personalized.
In order to preserve a little bit of sanity around the holidays, try to limit activities to a few meaningful ones. For example, if your family has a long standing tradition of getting the tree and decorating it all one day, then by all means forget making cookies or purchase them instead. With regard to Christmas gift shopping, try to stretch it out instead of doing it all at once. As well, try purchasing some of your gifts online or get to the mall when the doors open in the morning or during the dinner hour to beat the crowds.
The Joy of Bargain Shopping
Whether or not bargain shopping is a way of life or an occasional venture, there are great deals to be found when you shop at the outlet stores. Usually these types of stores have very low overhead, which allows them to offer many well known brands at greatly reduced prices. Sometimes products go through a repackaging update and the originals are offered at less than half the original price.
Normally, these stores are in a factory outlet type design, meaning that there are several outlet stores in one strip-center mall setting. This gives you the advantage of shopping for several discounted products within close proximity of each other. If you have holiday shopping to do or must find something for an upcoming birthday, then you will most likely find gifts for everyone on your list. Of course there are some downsides to this type of store. You are not likely to find the most current fashions trends and at times the stores tend to be unorganized, as they usually have a large inventory.
Bargain shopping can include anything from visiting estate or garage sales, thrift stores and outlet stores. It is also very cost effective to purchase seasonal items during the off season, bathing suits or barbecue grills in winter, heaters in the summer, etc. Another way to save is by purchasing Christmas gifts for next year right after this Christmas, as many things go on sale on December 26th and throughout January.
Believe it or not, flea markets are a great place to get really good deals on many items. Sometimes you have to wade through quite a bit of stuff you don’t need to find something you do, but when you do find it, it will be worth the trouble. It is also a good way to shop for a selection of wicker gift baskets, which can be turned in spectacular gourmet food gift baskets, wine gift baskets, corporate gift baskets, Christmas gift baskets and even baby gift baskets. Keep your eyes open while you are there and check back often.
Of course, when you think about bargain shopping, eBay normally comes to mind and for good reason. There are people who have actually become addicted to shopping this way and while that may seem a bit excessive, there are great deals to be found. And, while you are online, check out some of your favorite stores as many times they will have specials that are not available in the brick and mortar stores. Buying gifts online can also be less expensive than visiting the brick and mortar store, and many merchants offer discounts for placing orders online. Shopping online also makes it easier to compare prices from several different stores all at once, saving you from all of that running around time, which in turn helps to keep your gas consumption lower.
