I’m a little embarassed to admit this, but I am a gift giving catastrophe.  No, I don’t stumble and break things before giving.  Whenever it is gift-giving time, it just takes me an extremely long time to move beyond the decision stage.  I don’t know why my ideas seem to me to lack any originality.  My solution, as you may have guessed by this time, is the Internet.

The web has plenty of both traditional and non-traditional present ideas  Of course I know that a lot of the people making suggestions are actually trying to get me to spend my hard earned money.  Actually, I don’t even object to that.  I’d actually be willing to pay someone just to make the decision for me, so why not buy their products if they can come up with good ideas.  In my country, that’s the patriotic way to look at it!

Where else except the Internet could I have learned that I could send my mom a New York style cheesecake in place of the tin of cookies I sent year after year?  Yes, I am clever enough that now I figured out on my own that I can even radically change to a different cheesecake flavor!

My daughter, who apparently gets her creative gift giving skills from me, found a jewelry idea for her aunt.  While it turned out well for her, it made me jealous!

You can find gift ideas by searching for age groups, say teenagers (with whom I most the most trouble) and children.  You can also use a search engine to find articles recommending gifts of all the gift giving occasions from Christmas to Bar Mitzvahs, from anniversaries to house warmings, or even those holidays when nobody seems to really know the origin, such as Sweetest Day or St. Astor’s day or Siamese kitten day.  If you already have the beginnings of an idea, which is already one step ahead of me, you can conduct a search for a product category.  For example, you might know that you want to give a video game for a Playstation, a piece of jewelry that includes diamonds (you’ve just moved out of my price range) or even a gift for a dog.

Indeed, there are entire website pages and sites created for gift klutzes just like me where people publish ideas.  Apparently they have so many ideas they can afford to give them away.  If you happen to be one of those sorts of blessed people with too many ideas to use yourself, please put them online so that I can find them or you could just send the item directly to me and I’ll forward it to my favorite recipient.  Thanks, in advance.

Everyone has a story about their mother. Mothers are as different as their unique personalities. Some are patient and kind. Some are loud and obnoxious. Others are very opinionated. In spite of these characteristic differences in a mother’s personality, they do the best that they can, as there is no wrong way to love their child.

Let me first point out that being a mother is the most challenging, yet rewarding, experience in a woman’s life. Women have the ability to love their child unconditionally, in spite of the circumstances. It is said that a Mother’s Love begins at the very thought of conception and never ends; not even after death.

My mother is celebrating her eightieth birthday in a couple months. She is one of those women who needs nothing, and who finds happiness in the simplest things. I decided to pay tribute to her life, and especially her motherhood, buy selecting an assortment of Italian charms that would each have special meaning to her. Each charm reflects a certain period of her life as a wife, a mother and a grandmother. I’m sure it will bring tears for her, but I’m sure it will also remind her of many happy times with more to anticipate.

For the mother who just gave birth to a red-faced, wrinkly skinned, squalling infant with no hair, no teeth, and no idea of who this woman is, her first comment is “Isn’t my baby the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen in your life?!” A new mother’s love is blind.

A mother’s love for her toddler is patient, as she tirelessly teaches this youngster what society expects of them. Temper tantrums thrown in frustration are dealt with. Lessons in potty training and communication are constant. Though this stage is short-lived, it takes a lot of energy to keep up with a rambunctious child of this age. The mother’s love grows with each accomplishment.

The love for the school-aged child can best be described as consistent, as the mother learns to let her child develop an individual personality. She allows her child to socialize; enables her child to experience life; challenges her child to become independent; supports her child through trials and triumphs, alike. Through all of these stages of development, her love is unwavering.

In a mother’s eyes, her child can usually do no wrong, regardless of the circumstances. Not so true in the tumultuous adolescent years. Because the mother did such a good job of raising her child to be an independent, self-reliant individual, teen-agers often push themselves into adulthood before they are actually ready. Mistakes are made. Often, all a mother can do is guide the child to learn from their mistakes; to make better decisions; to accept that her child is not perfect. In this stage of motherhood, her love needs to be very forgiving and understanding.

The love a mother has for her adult child is full of pride, for she has the satisfaction of a job well done in raising her child. Her efforts have been successful. Her love has overcome all of the obstacles and stages in life. This love is reciprocated because the adult child realizes and appreciates the love their mother has shown them throughout their life.

There is a special bond formed by mother and child once the child becomes a parent. The mother’s ever-changing role is now defined as “Grandmother”. This woman’s love has come full circle now because she understands the challenges her child will face in raising a child. She knows the rewards her child will receive. She appreciates the lessons in love that her grandchild will learn. For, there is no stronger love than that of a mother; and no love more rewarding than becoming a grandmother!Shall we all drink a hearty toast to our mother’s whose love has always enveloped us?

Christmas is now on the way and just for a laugh I thought it would be a cool idea to write down a few of the strangest things I have recieved over the holiday season.

They do seem to get madder and madder with my growing age so perhaps it is a somebody trying to tell me that I am perhaps going a bit mad myself. My Aunt is the one who does this as she always hands out crazy gifts. These gifts are so fun to open and almost take me back to the days in which I was younger.

Some of these eco Christmas gifts have even been eco friendly gifts which I cannot say I am a personal fan of but nevertheless some of them have been really quite fun to mess around with, so without further baffling, here is the list of my favourites.

The Fighting Old Geezers

These are simply brilliant and I was very chuffed indeed when I received these as they are such a simple yet brilliant gift to give. I looked on in amazement as I had two toy old men who whenever put near eachother started to attempt to kill one another. However I did get a bit of enjoyment out of watching two old men hit eachother with a stick, is that so wrong.

Of course personally I will never play chess, I thought it was still a cool little gift as the set knew exactly when I made a wrong move

Bed Linen, Yes really

Yes I received bed linen from my mad aunt and this is the strangest of all the items received as it isn’t even a crazy gift.

Has my aunt finally lost her marbles? I am quite looking forward to seeing what present I recieve from her this holliday season. After all, most people have that crazy person who loves to give out wacky gifts every year right?
