Healing Music in the Bible
My pastor taught an interesting message today. The theme was “Refilling our Faith,” and the theme was one we don’t like to admit: our life with Jesus doesn’t always become ‘sweeter as the days go by’ as the old hymn says. Actually, at times, despite our best efforts to be pious and devout, if we were truly honest with ourselves and with others, we would have to admit that sometimes our faith just dwindles. Many times in day to day life, we just feel an emptiness inside. Isn’t this true?
Perhaps the reason stems from sickness, relationship problems, {shrinking bank accounts}, loss of job, gas price hikes or a dozen other stresses which attack us from every angle every day. Bottom line is, more often than we’d like to admit, we feel an emptiness. Our faith, which is supposed to carry us on wings like eagles, doesn’t seem to even be able to lift us off the ground. (Isaiah 40:31)
So what’s the answer? We can deny it. Wear a mask on our faces and walk around saying, “I’m fine, thank you.” We can memorize a few more scripture in hopes that a dogmatic habit will relieve the creeping emptiness. We can seek prescription drugs for depression or join a support group, both of which certainly have their appropriate place in healing and wholeness. But I would like to submit that making music a part or our prayer time, seeking healing through music that is based on scripture can bring about spiritual peace and hope.
More than two thousand years ago, the author of Psalms discovered that music ushered in authentic interaction, even intimacy, with Almighty God. Psalm 42; Psalm 62-63. As Psalm 33:18 states, the One who created our hearts truly understands our every need and emotion.
So, when we feel lonely, empty, depressed, we can acknowledge our feelings, confess our fears, cry our tears in the presence of the only One who truly understands. This, in fact, is the only solution which can set us on the road to {healing and peace}.
During those times that we notice an brokenness in our soul, those are the very times when we need to draw close to God in an attitude of worship. When our faith in Jesus seems to have lost power to inspire us, let alone move mountains, we can still turn to our Savior as a refuge and a safe haven. I have found in my own journey of faith that in these seasons of emptiness, if I can just pushing deeper into Jesus instead of turning away, I find not only comfort and rest, but a deep sense of safety and peace.
There are two ways that I personally have learned how to press in even when I feel unmotivated, unspiritual, unworthy. The first is to just continue reading and thinking the Bible. When I cannot muster up desire for an intense (or even a simple) Bible study, I open my Bible to a favorite passage, a psalm perhaps, and I read just a few words. Then I allow those words to wash over my spirit, and I pray for faith, for serenity, for hope, for whatever I need. Never does the Lord disappoint. It’s a promise in the Bible – when we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us. (James 4:8)
But by far, the main way that I have learned to press into the Lord, to experience a spiritual connection even when my total being is drained of energy and life, is through music. I believe that music is one of God’s most valuable creations; and our ability to appreciate it – or create it – can be a direct way into His presence.
I have been playing the piano and singing most of my life, and music has become a personal prayer language for me. It has become the quickest way for me to enter into an attitude of worship, and the Lord has used music in my life as a method of delightfully restoring me.
So, the next time you are feeling empty or are needing emotional stability, invited the word of God to minister to you and the presence of God to be in you and surround you. Try listening to (or creating if you desire) music that is based in scripture.
Jesus offers us an unending well of living water. (John 4:14) When we need to “refill our faith” we can go back to the well time and time again and say, “I need more!” Jesus answers, “Come!” Worship through music can be an avenue through which we come to that well.

Cultivate Your Music Playing With Scales
As a musician you must practice many monotonous tasks that can be boring, such as scale playing. Scales are a necessary evil, if you will and if applied properly can be a path to better playing, no matter the instrument. If you can first comprehend how you will benefit from scales, then you will have more motivation to begin them in earnest.
Of What Benefit Are Scales To Me?
Scales are useful for the enhancement of technique in your playing, being it guitar or piano. The practice of scales rewards the player with increasingly exacting music. You will grasp music theory more when you understand scales, they go hand in hand. The ever changing chords of jazz are very well suited to the use of scales. Scales help you to grasp and anticipate music.
If you want scales to become second nature you must make them a part of your day, every day. A good way to warm up your fingers before playing is to play scales.
Practice Tips
It is important to start with a scale that is easy for you. Start slowly and do not strain. Play a major triad easy and slow, progress to an octave run. Repeat this process as you move up in whole or half notes. Next you will repeat the process with a different scale, say a minor one instead of a major one.
The music will be part of your permanent finger memory as you continue to practice scales. As you progress you will be able to play one scale after another as you move up and down. Your technique as you play scales is vitally important. The practice of scales is the often despised memory of childhood trauma but it can be overcome as you learn what it can do for you.
You are developing good or bad habits as you play scales, so concentrate and play well.

Music On The Go
We live in a very stressful and busy world. Between our jobs, and our family, we barely have any time left for ourselves. Not only is this bad for the mind, but it is bad for the body as well. Relaxation time is very important, and a mere 30 minutes a day can do wonders for your psychic and body.

Mobile Mp3 players have become more and more common, so people can listen to music wherever they are, not only at home. Of course, listening to music in the subway does not compare to listening to it in your own home, but, wherever you are, listening to it soothes the body and soul.
Mp3 players now allow people to do much more than just listen to music. Advanced players, called portable media players, even allow users to watch photos, or their favorite videos.
If you are looking for something more advanced than a regular Mp3 player, then the zen 4gb creative is perfect. It can easily be used even by those who have never used such a device before, and it also offers advanced features such as a FM radio and alarm clock. Its large screen is suitable for viewing photographs and videos as well.
Since listening to music in public has become common, even people who found this weird are free to use them now. Also, headphones have gotten smaller and smaller, so no one will even know you’re wearing them. Finding a little time to listen to some of your favorite music, or watch a favorite video is very important, and this mp3 player helps you accomplish this. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed!

Accessorizing Your Ipod
We all want a small ipod to take along everywhere we go, and we would like it to suit any function we might think of at a certain moment. This incredible small player has revolutionized the market, and since it appeared, hundreds of companies tried to duplicate the technology it incorporated by adding new features to existing players, or attempting to produce even small players. None of them registered the tremendous success ipod had and still has.
A great small and colorful player is the best choice for any teen that simply needs to stand out. This is why parents are buying thousands of new ipods daily for their kids, as they make a perfect gift for any age, and can also prove very useful. But an ipod without proper accessories is like a beautiful girl dressed in old clothes. This is why you must think ahead and determine what possible uses you might be considering for your small player.
You could be going on a trip and take you ipod along. It’s a shame not to have the appropriate set of ipod mini headphones with you, as they will be the only way you can listen to your favorite music while you’re traveling. Also, the small accessories are easy to loose, since they are indeed smaller than the usual sets, therefore you’ll need a special ipod bag to carry along, with proper pockets for all accessories, so that they can stay in there sealed and protected.
The most incredible thing about these fashionable players is the impact they have on people watching you. It’s like you come from another world, and you posses something everyone wants. No one is watching your hair style anymore, nobody cares anymore about the way you look or if you are a bit too skinny. They all just glance in jealousy at the ipod, in such a way that you might even feel embarrassed and move on.
So, getting an ipod is not enough, because the journey is only beginning. You’ll need plenty more stuff like music, protective cases, accessory bags and so on before you can be completely satisfied with your asset.
A Review of WABC’s Saturday Night Oldies from the April 11th Show
From the romantic opening notes of Blood Sweat and Tears’ “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy” to the closing notes of Dave Clark Five’s raucous “I Like It Like That,” Mark Simone served up another memorable show on the April 11th Saturday Night Oldies (SNO) on WABC Radio. The show sounded much like a great radio show would have sounded in Music Radio’s 1977 heyday.
A great early highlight of the show was a live clip of Steely Dan’s “Reeling in the Years” from the old live rock show The Midnight Specialin 1973, a show that introduced many of us as kids and teens to a wide ranging list of groups in concert when many of us were too young to attend concerts on our own. A second early treat from this last Saturday’s show occurred late into the first hour of the show, when Simone, always the talented host and amiable interviewer, interspersed some interesting highlights from the David Lynch Foundation benefit concert held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City the previous Saturday evening. Among the performers that evening at the semi-private, sold-out event were Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney. Listeners to SNO were lucky enough to hear a few clips and some interesting banter from McCartney thanks to Mark. At the end of the first hour, Mark entertained his audience with some great Frank Kingston Smith montages from Smith’s radio days.
At the beginning of the second hour, Simone played a relatively obscure song from the band Chicago. The first guest of the evening was Bob Barker, who was on the phone with Mark at about 7:20 PM. Barker seemed as he always appears on television, both friendly and energetic. At least one interesting note from the interview included the fact that Barker lived much of his childhood on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota (Barker, is in fact, 1/8 American Indian).
While Bob is currently plugging an autobiographical book, “Priceless Memories” (and Mark questioned him about the book), Bob noted that any proceeds from the book will be going to Barker’s favorite animal rights charities. At one point, Mark asked Barker about the nasty character he played in the movie, Happy Gilmore. Barker revealed that the movie’s star, Adam Sandler, had the part written especially for Barker, because it was, in fact, not in keeping with Barker’s real character, very friendly and good natured. At about 7:30, after repeated attempts by Mark to say something bad about someone in Hollywood, Barker playfully stated that he would not. He did thank Mark for another great Mark Simone interview, which ended on a high note.
During the prgram, many listeners either called in or posted to the Message Boards, and one of the best topics of the night was the audience responses to who is the “the dumbest character on television” and who is “the smartest character on TV.” Several unusual responses were received throughout the evening. A series of songs next played ranging from a 1978 tune from Yvonne Elliman, and closing close to the 8:00 pm hour with the Beatles, “Got to Get You into My Life.”
At about 8:25, after a 1965 favorite from the Lovin’ Spoonful, Simone started a second audio montage and jingles of Frank Kingston Smith from his radio days. Calling in from Scottsdale, Arizona, Mark noted that a caricature of Smith was on a wall at WABC’s headquarters in NYC, where it is sharing space with photos of Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and other current WABC Radio hosts. Smith stated that he was honored to have the Jack Davis cartoon/caricature placed there and he seemed to be unaware of its existence before Mark told him about it. Speaking of how he arrived at WABC, Smith explained that he had received a telephone call one Saturday morning, and caller said he was Rick Sklar, the legendary producer of WABC Music Radio. Not believing him, Smith originally hung up on Sklar. Upon calling Smith back, Sklar asked that he call him at his office number and have the operator put him through to Sklar. And, of course, the rest is history.
Smith told the audience he was working at a radio station in Philadelhpia when he caught the interest of Sklar. He mentioned fondly of filling in for Cousin Bruce Morrow and Ron Lundy. Smith recalled one quirky experience when Morrow played his headphones very loudly.Smith told listeners that after leaving WABC, he went to Boston, but he still has fond memories of this great radio station and New York City. He said that he keeps busy these days at air shows, and that he and his wife, Linda, have 2 German Shepherds. Mark mentioned that, when he was younger, he always wanted to imitate Smith’s voice. Frank Kingston Smith appeared to be genuinely moved by that comment, and he was very pleased to be on the air once again at 77 WABC.
Approaching the top of the 9:00 hour, with the Beatles 1964 tune, “I’m Happy Just to Dance with You,” Mark mentioned that “A Hard Days Night” was televised recently.
Mark started to ask who the smartest character on television was, and mentioned Mr. Wizard as an example. The banter continued back and forth with callers and message board folks about TV’s smartest and dumbest characters. He confessed that he has never sat through an episode of “Star Trek.” A “fake” break included an old commercial from Robert Hall clothiers (the store where my father bought me one of my very first suits) as well as Louis Armstrong doing an old Schaefer beer ad.
Starting the final hour with the Beach Boys’ “Sloop John B,” Mark joked that the next song, the Rolling Stones’ “Miss You,” released in 1978, may have been Jagger & Company’s answer to disco, which I thought was an insightful suggestion that I hadn’t paid much attention to previously.
After “I’m A Believer” at about 9:20 PM, Mark began his interview with Micky Dolenz, a former member of the Monkees. Mark mentioned that Micky will be appearing at the Capital One Bank Theatre in Westbury, Long Island, on Friday, May 8. Micky said that the show also included Peter Noone and Mark Lindsay as the Teen Idol Show, but Dolenz joked that he wanted to call them the Teen Idol ‘rat pack.’ When asked, he said that the trio would do solo numbers and a few numbers together including the song ‘Stepping Stone,’ which he would perform with Mark Lindsay (his only real reference made to the Monkees).
Mark asked Micky if there was ever any friction between the British and the American groups. Micky denied any animosity between the two musical groups. Micky did make an interesting note that the British ‘pop’ sound even today is sometimes more distinct than its American cousin, simply because the U.K. is relatively small compared to the United States. Among the other items that Mark mentioned in the interview included Micky’s stint as an inventor. Micky has invented an item called a ‘Hang It All’ to hang pictures, or as he joked ‘to hang all his gold record albums.’
When Mark asked Micky about his radio days as a DJ on WCBS FM New York, Micky mentioned that he enjoyed those days, but that they were difficult as they involved getting up at 4:00 AM.Micky said he now has a lot more respect for radio folks like Simone after being a DJ for a while.Mark Simone was happy to hear this from someone like Dolenz. Mark and Micky talked about the many songs that the Monkees chose not to record.“Is that All There Is” was one of the never-recorded songs, which Peggy Lee ultimately picked up.” Finally, it was mentioned that Dolenz actually had auditioned for the role of Fonzie in the 1970’s TV series, Happy Days, but noted that he had no regrets, and commended Henry Winkler for a ‘great job’ on the series. The interview concluded shortly thereafter and Micky noted that his website http://www.mickydolenz.com/ contained some additional information on his upcoming solo shows as well.
At the end of the interview, Mark played “Pleasant Valley Sunday,” the 1967 hit from the Monkees.” While Mark continued some of the TV trivia with callers, “Rockin Robin” and a nice, live version of BJ Thomas’ “I Just Can’t Help Believing” rounded out the songs for the show before ending with Dave Clark’s upbeat “I Like it Like That.As usual, another fun Saturday night thanks to Mark Simone and his Saturday Night Oldies show!

Apple iPhone – High Price Tag for a Lush Tool
It cannot be denied that status is everything in this modern age. Besides the housing as well as jewelry, technological device is also thing that can correspond to person’s status. One of technological device that becomes a status symbol is Apple iPhone. It becomes compulsary by the social perception pressure. This gadget has become must-have for the sake of reputation though it may not exactly be necessary.
When talking about Apple iPhone first began to flow all over the technological world, it was nominated as one of the biggest must-haves of 2007. When it became a reality, once Apple set a release date, it was already sold-out. From pre-orders and online sales to on-sight, the first shipment of iPhones was gone before anyone had the opportunity to discern or decide whether it was worth the hundreds of dollars or not.
In any case, there is a doubt whether Apple iPhone value as its price tag or it just another achievement for its marketing and advertising. Only time that can answer. So far, Apple iPhone has been met with mixed reviews, though some consumers live and die by the gadget.
Behind the Name
As a brand name, Apple has become a staple of technology. From the iMac to the iPod, it is the top achievement of multimedia devices. In a sense, it is not worth purchasing an mp3 player except it is an iPod, or a laptop unless it is a PowerBook. While the prices of Apple gadgets are steep, the company seems to defend the price. Cheaper devices hardly ever do well in the face of Apple products, and costumers are eager to dig hundreds more for one of the items.
This is due in part to Apple’s marketing, but also to its trustworthyiness. The company has proven that its products are durable, long-lasting and cutting edge and third-party companies release their products ultimately to be compatible with Apple products. For a costumer, this means that purchasing Apple promises only the best.
So, what about the Apple iPhone? While it is a technological wonder, combining an iPod, internet browser and cell phone all at once in a sleek, sexy package with a touch screen and virtual keyboard that makes geeks drool, it is expensive and frequently, pointless. For those who already own an iPod and a cell phone, not much else is gained with the Apple iPhone save the convenience of having it all in one place.
In 2007, Apple iPhone was nominated as the best invention. As a result, Apple made the costumers who indeed do not have need of it just had to purchase it to save their statuses. Apple has verified that anything it releases is golden, and every time it is time to buy a new technological gadget its products stay on the top of list.
Are you still at sea of knowing more about Apple iPhone? Just look around your best answer herein!
A Review of No Line on the Horizon, U2′s Newst Album
On March 3, 2009, U2 released their 12th studio album, No Line on the Horizon.
It’s been a while since their last release, 2004′s How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, but it was worth the wait. The album features 11 songs with the best of classic U2 music.
The Irish rockers get back to basics with their strongest offering in years. It was recorded in Dublin, New York, London and Fès, Morocco. And the good news is that Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois, and Steve Lillywhite all helped to produce the album. But I don’t think this is the best U2 album since Eno and Lanois first worked with the band on 1984′s The Unforgettable Fire.
Magnificent, with its drum crescendos, trademark guitar riffs, and a soaring Bono vocal, is easily the best song on the album and is the second single to be released. The first release, Get On Your Boots, is a good song; this is the single the band performed at the Grammys on February 8. The song is classic foot tapping music. However, Boots only hit No. 37 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Breathe incorporates the band’s classic approach but still sounds contemporary. And the albums ends on a sad, thoughtful note with Cedars Of Lebanon, a song about war and violence. Lyrics like “the right to appear ridiculous is something I hold dear” in the song I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight, show that the band still has a sense of humour.
But sales have not been as high as anticipated since its release on March 3. No Line sold just 484,000 copies in its first week of sales. Of course, not many bands would consider 484,000 albums sold a disappointment. But U2 is not just any act. The Irish band’s last album, 2004′s How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, sold 840,000 copies in the first week.
A couple of the tracks are a bit long and the cover art is very plain, however, I think No Line on the Horizon is a worthy addition to U2′s collection.
