Table Tennis and Where It Gets Its Roots

Quite a bit like real tennis, the game of table tennis uses pretty much the same basic rules as its larger brother. If you like to watch a lot of sports on television, and are too dim to the sports channel often, chances are you have watched a game of table tennis or two.

Unlike the full version game of tennis, table tennis, or what is commonly known as ping-pong, is played on a wooden table that is normally green in color, but occasionally blue. Instead of using full-size tennis rackets to play the game, small paddles with surfaces made out of rubber are used to bat a small plastic ball back and forth across the table just like tennis.

Over the years table tennis is becoming increasingly more and more popular. This is because the game is very easy to learn how to play,  it is very fun, and it doesn’t take very much room to hold a table. Unlike regular tennis, you can set up a ping-pong table in a garage and have plenty of room for entertainment.

Simply having a ping-pong table and some paddles is enough to play the game, you don’t need to go out and buy a bunch of fancy and expensive equipment to play. The only thing that requires some investment capital per se, is the cost of the table. This is a lot though when you compare it to the cost of other sports. When you have your table purchased, all you have to do is get yourself a set of paddles in a ball and gather up your friends together and get ready to play.

Table Tennis History

The origins of table tennis began in the late 1800s when some well off men in England were trying to find a sport which they could do indoors. They came up the idea from watching the game of tennis, and began by making some makeshift paddles out of the lids of some cigarette boxes and used a ball made out of strings. For the court all they used was a table.

As soon as the 1900s hit, the game was growing in popularity, and they were soon manufacturers of table tennis tables making really large improvements on the original table design, and started making them for sale. The tables weren’t the only things that showed improvements as they improve the paddles and balls as well. The paddles were integrated with rubber faces so it would slow the game down some and they started making the balls out of a material that gave them a rounder shape and allowed them to bounce better.

As the game became increasingly more popular, and the commerciality of it grew, more and more people were able to play and enjoy the game. In the year 1902, the first table tennis tournament was held in which people are allowed to compete, and around the year 1930 the first world championship table tennis tournament was played. That tournament was held in England.

Over the years, the game has developed a life of it’s own and become a phenomenon that the entire world loves. Many families throughout the earth enjoy the accessibility of having a table in their own house.~With the test of time, the game has become a universal frenzy that has survived generations. It has become a long-term pasttime for friends and family to love and enjoy as well a burning fad for those who love to compete.} With this comes the enjoyment of having friends and family over to compete and play with which adds a lot of fun to the fellowship of family.

Table Tennis Training – Don’t Let Expectations Ruin Your Game

Table Tennis History

After a period of successful table tennis tournaments and high-level play, you sometimes expect to be able to play at that level any time. This expectation can eventually become your downfall. With this added expectation comes the pressure of performing at the level you’re accustomed to. The added personal pressure leads to a lack of relaxation, poor decision-making, and ultimately to your playing well below your newly attained level. Once you start playing poorly, you will get frustrated that you are not playing your usual game. This leads to more bad losses and results and the downward spiral continues.

The only way to get out of the cycle is to take a step back and analyze how and why you are playing so poorly. Is it a result of your training method? If you have experienced a steady gain in your level over time and your results up to this point have been good, then it probably isn’t how you’re training. Most of the time the cause for a sudden period of poor results can be summarized in one word: expectations.

Before your winning streak began you were table tennis training and working hard to improve your weaknesses. You went to a tournament hoping that your training would pay off, but you weren’t really sure if it would. In other words, your expectations for yourself and your game were relatively low, and so you were relaxed and focused on just playing the best table tennis that you could. There was no pressure and no fear, which is the exact reason you played so well. As soon as you began to have expectations, you started feeling the added pressure, and playing table tennis with too much pressure will almost always lead to poor results. So, instead of playing with the expectation of winning, play to improve your game, and you will consistently play at your best.

When Time is short – Table Tennis training tips

We do not always have the time or energy to play and practice as much table tennis as we would like to. We get caught up with family, work, or other activity that limits our ability to focus on our ping pong game. So during periods where table tennis training time is limited, what is the most critical aspect of the game to work on? Can we find an answer.

Should we practice our smash or loop and is that really a good idea? Due to the weakness of your serve and serve return, chances are your loop or smash won’t even come into play. This weakness will enable your table tennis opponent to deal with your serve very easily and put you out of position early in the point. You’ll end up having to make high level shots that require hours of practice just to stay in the table tennis point. You will not be able to effectively prevent your ping pong opponent from attacking off his/her own serve, which will lead to even more difficulty. With a weak serve and return of serve, when will you be able to use the forehand loop you practiced?

This should make the point clear that when time is very limited for practicing table tennis, work on your serve and serve return. At the very least, you will not be at a major disadvantage early in the point and will have a better chance of staying in and perhaps even winning the point. If you neglect your serve and serve return, you will not be able to effectively enter into a rally and will always be at a major disadvantage and have to make very difficult table tennis shots in order to win.

Utilizing Your Maneuvers While In the Match: Being the Explorer or the Dominator

A ping pong match is something that you should prepare for whenever you are going to play. It helps if you prepare early on days before the game starts by studying your opponents and finding out what their strengths and weaknesses are. However, if you didn’t prepare like this, you can easily find out their strengths and weaknesses by being “The Explorer”.
Your main tactic as the Explorer, is to get a feel for your opponent by sending them at many different types of shots. By being an effective explorer, you must use all kinds of shots once the game starts, such as blocks, loops, drives, counter-drives, spins, pushes, and other shots. By using this tactic you can figure out quickly which shots your opponent is weakest against. Try varying the different speeds at which you get the ball, and used many different types of serves as well.
As I said a second ago, you’re going to be able find out your opponents weakness very quickly by doing this. When you figure out your opponent by using this method, you’re going to be able to concentrate on sending your opponent also shots  that they are weakest against. As an example, if you find that the up opponent is weak against the soft lob, try to give him or her more of those.
That isn’t the only strategy you could use the, you can use another strategy in which you control the game right from the get-go and bring it onto your opponent and adjust as you go. This is known as the “dominator” trait.

A dominator won’t show any mercy and they will come to the table throwing their best shots straightaway from the beginning of the game. By doing this, you will force your opponent to adjust to your shots and not the other way around. Even though this can truly be an advantage for you, you also need to be able to adjust to how your opponent plays as well. Not being able to adjust will mean losing the game and many errors.

If you are going to play the dominator, this means that you are going to need to start the game with your best shots and make adjustments that correspond to the responses of your opponent’s shots.

Nine you need to make the decision on which type of player you’re going to be, either a dominator or an explorer. If you are going to become a good ping-pong player, you’re going to have to learn how to mix both styles together so that you can make adjustments to your opponent rapidly. So whichever type of ping-pong player you are, you need to take the time and learn how to make adjustments to your opponents play so you can defeat them at their own game.

Perfect These Table Tennis Tips to Beat Any Opponent

You should be prepared to play ping-pong just like you are mentally prepared for any other sport. It is a big help if you start out early and watch your opponent play so that you know what their strengths and their weaknesses are. If he didn’t have time to prepare like this, it doesn’t really matter as you can find out what their weaknesses are by playing “The Explorer”.
By playing the Explorer, your tactic is to feel out your opponents by sending him or her many different types of shots. If you wish to be an effective explorer, you are going to have to use many different types of shots, such as loops, counter drives, drives, blocks, pushes, spins, and other types of shots. By doing this, you will be able to adjust quickly and determine what shots are your opponent’s weakness. Try varying the different speeds at which you get the ball, and used many different types of serves as well.
As mentioned before, you will be able to find out what your opponent’s strengths and weaknesses are with this method. By doing this, you will be able to avoid giving them balls that they are strong at and concentrate more on their weaknesses. For instance, if you notice that your opponent can’t ever hit the ball from your backhand, try to send them more hits from the backhand.
Another strategy is by forcing your game to your opponent right at the start of the game and adjust your plays or tactics as you go. This form of gameplay is known as the “dominator” method for obvious reasons.

My being in a dominator, you are going to need to bring your best shots out first and be able to make adjustments according to how your opponent responds to your shots.

Now, try to figure out whether you are an explorer or a dominator. A good ping pong player will have a mixture of both and one that can adjust to their opponents quickly. So whichever type of ping-pong player you are, you need to take the time and learn how to make adjustments to your opponents play so you can defeat them at their own game.
